Judo Techniques
Developed in Japan in the late 1800's however unlike most of the Japanese martial arts stemming from warriors Judo is a style developed by a polymath and educator. This styles creator Kano Jigoro who studied the art of Jiu-jitsu. For years Kano developed ideas of ways to alter Jiu-jitsu breaking down to a mere science. This style of Judo was focused on the body and mind. The name Judo means "the way of gentleness" its main focus is takedowns however it also involves rolls, falls, throws, chokes, join locks and strikes.
Judo has gained worldwide popularity over the years its ways of takedowns and submissions attract millions of students and it is even an Olympic sport. In Judo the way that one gains victory is by either throwing the opponent to the ground or making the opponent submit. Kicks and punches are illegal in a judo match causing Judo to be a close contact art as oppose to some martial art competition where one would see opponents kicking and running making a long drawn out match with no action.
Judo is practiced worldwide and is the influence on a lot of self-defense techniques. Like Jiu-jitsu Judo is another art that focuses on leverage proving the theory that "size in a fight matters" is definitely wrong. Judo cuts out the size element in fights because the art emphasizes on using an opponents own momentum to throw them to the ground and execute a choke or submission.
