Karate Fighting Style
Karate was developed in Okinawa Japan in the 15h century when Okinawa was known then as the Ryukyu Islands. At this time in the world Chinese influence rained supreme over the Ryukyu Islands and they had a close relationship with them. The Chinese martial artists introduced the Okinawa people to Chinese Kenpo. Chinese Kenpo had influenced the indigenous people of Okinawa who practiced Ti (which was the indigenous people of Okinawa's martial art). The influence of Chinese Kenpo was so strong on the indigenous people that they interpreted it and made a style of their own called Todi (meaning Chinese hand). Todi later developed into Okinawan Karate. For almost three centuries the style Todi was taught in secrecy within the warrior class. It was so exclusive in these times that it was only taught to one child per generation never aloud to be introduced to a child outside of the family. Eventually when the Ryukyu system was abolished the Ryukyu kingdom became under Japan's rule Todi was taught to the general public in the form of Karate. In the 1900 Karate became included in the curriculum of Okinawan elementary schools. A karate expert named Gichin Funakoshi made his mark in the history of Karate with a book called Ryukyu Kenpo Karate and was highly regarded as a bible for Karate. Karate began to spread on an international level after the Second World War. The American Military that were stationed in Okinawa during this time contributed greatly to the spread of this Martial art.
