Krav Maga Fighting Style
Jewish Boxer and wrestler Imi Lichtenfeld created Krav Maga as a way to aide his people against brutal attacks by Nazis in the 1930's. Now, Krav Maga is one of the deadliest hand-to-hand combat systems in the world. Krav Maga is Israeli's national martial art. Translated it means close combat, and it is required that everyone in the Israeli military must learn it. This art includes everything from basic moves to advanced Special Forces techniques. Krav Maga would be the melting pot of many martial arts in one style.
The strikes and blocks from Krav Maga are picked up from Muay Tai, which is from Thailand, and Karate, from Okinawa. The throws are from Judo, a Japanese art. The disarms and grappling are from Jujitsu. Krav Maga is rather unorthodox - two opponents have no ring, no rules: it is all about survival. When Krav Maga first started it was simply a combination of boxing and wrestling: its creator was a boxer and wrestler.
Krav Maga is an aggressive style of martial arts - it is not based on calculated moves like most martial arts. It focuses on counter attacking as soon as possible. Another focus of Krav Maga is striking exposed body parts such as eyes, knees, throat and jaw etc. Some of the counter attacks will result in a take down or a joint break. Krav Maga emphasizes on focus and avoiding all distractions. Sometimes training will include blindfolding the trainee to heighten the students senses.
