Muay Tai

The origin of Muay Tai is dated back more than two thousand years. Muay Tai is known as "the science of eight limbs," because this lethal art focuses on the hands, elbows, knees and feet as strikers to their opponents. The Thais used this hand-to-hand combat style against their enemies, the Burmese. Like most ancient martial arts, Muay Tai was first used in warfare, but later gained popularity as a sport in which fighters compete in front of large numbers of spectators. For faster recovery fighters switched from competing with bare knuckles, to tying hemp rope covering the fists and forearms.

The art of Muay Tai incorporates a wide array of kicks, punches, elbows and knee strikes. The punches that Muay Tai martial artists focus on are jab, hook, swing, spinning back fist, uppercut, and cobra.

Muay Tai elbows are elbow slash, horizontal elbow, uppercut elbow, forward elbow thrust, reverse horizontal elbow, spinning elbow, elbow chop, double elbow chop and mid air elbow strike.

The kicks that Muay Tai focus on are the straight kick, roundhouse kick, diagonal kick, half shin half knee kick, spinning heel kick, down roundhouse kick, axe heel kick, jump kick and step up kick.

Muay Tai knees include straight knee strike, diagonal knee strike, curving knee strike, horizontal knee strike, knee slap, knee bomb, jumping knee and step up knee strike.

Muay Tai values foot thrust techniques as well such as straight foot thrust, sideways foot thrust, reverse foot thrust, slapping foot thrust and jumping foot thrust.

The most notable trait of Muay Tai is neck clinching, forcing the competitors to make the fights more interesting. The neck clinching is what establishes control in the fight, making it easier for throws and takedowns.
