Forward Foot Sweep MMA Takedown, Diashi Harai

Forward Foot Sweep

This takedown is a move that should be practiced with swiftness, and with confident upper body positioning. This is necessary in order for this move to be executed effectively. When you and your opponent are in the standing locked position at the arms, either you or your opponent steps forward while your arms are still locked.

The position now should look like both opponent's arms are locked and one foot is forward. One foot is behind, but on opposing feet for your opponent. So your front foot is right in front of their back leg, and your back leg is right in front of their back leg.

Now what you do from this position: as quickly as possible with your back leg, sweep their front leg while pulling their upper body off balance, using your upper body strength mainly from your hips, to direct their fall. This move should be done all in one motion, so that your opponent's momentum allows you to execute it.
